Figure Model

What does one need to do to become a figure model?  Here are a few pointers you need to consider if you plan to go down that road.

Diet and exercise

First of all, you have to acquire the distinctive muscular yet feminine physique of a figure model.  This is not just a matter of losing weight and looking sexy.  The athletic body of a model entails adopting a certain lifestyle and being consistent with it.  This is definitely not an overnight process as having a low level of body fat and building muscle mass and density all throughout the year takes dedication, hard work, and commitment to a strict diet and training regimen.

Losing fat

If you are overweight, first you have to lose that fat.  Make sure that the diet and exercise program you embark on will result in fat loss instead of muscle loss.  This is more specific than just losing weight.  With your diet, when and how often you eat are as important as what and how much.  You should not miss meals and there should be frequent yet small food intakes throughout the day.

Building muscle size and density

As mentioned, you have to keep up with your diet and exercise for months.  There are no instant results for this. Weights and cardio exercises are to be done day in and day out.  The foods you eat should be healthy and should provide your body adequate nutrition to fuel your workouts.  Do the necessary research or hire a trainer to monitor if you are doing the right amount of cardio exercises.

Modeling requirements

To get initially noticed, you have to send out photographs of yourself to fitness agencies and publications.  The job objective is to have a photo of you in magazines and catalogs.  Therefore, the camera has to love you.  Look for a photographer that you can work well with.  He or she should be able to produce photographs that highlight your look and show off your best traits as these photos are basically your calling card.

Knowing the industry

Learn all that you can about the industry.  Know who the important people are.  Attend shows.  Approach casting directors or modeling agents.  Be at your best shape all the time and put yourself out there.

Working with the industry

Just like any job, professionalism is important.   Thus, you have to be at your best when it comes to attitude.  Attend photo shoots on time and work well with the other people in the shoot.  As you are getting gradually noticed, so is your reputation.  This will decide if you will get another modeling job and how much you will get paid.

Consistency

Consistency is not just required with your diet, exercise, and maintaining that figure all year round.  You also have to look the same way in person as you did in your photos.  Casting directors book you based on what they see in your photos and if you show up for the job looking different, it could be a mark against your career.
